Battling Insomnia
Life is full of stressors that triggers stress which in turns cuases insomnia to some people. Battling insomnia is common in our modern and hurried lifestyle. Occasionally we all lose sleep during the night hours due to life stresses during the daytime. There are times when our minds refuse to shut down during sleeping hours. There are various reasons that sleep will not come and few of them may link to excitement or stress. Other reasons such as drinking coffee or other caffeine based substances at night can also prevent sleep. Alcohol may appear to relax the mind, but it does the opposite. At night alcohol should be avoided since even if you do fall asleep your will lose REM sleep, which is needed to feel relaxed.
If you had an exciting day and very pleased, you may lose a night sleep dwelling on the day. Various reasons can cause a person to lose sleep, however if sleepless nights persist you may need help, since acute insomnia can lead to chronic insomnia and lead to serious illnesses.
Yes, if a person continues to lose sleep, the body is affected immensely. People that suffer insomnia on a chronic level may later in life endure heart problems. Heart attacks, strokes, high-blood pressure, diabetes and other major illnesses are common for those that suffer ongoing insomnia throughout their lifetime.
If you are suffering ongoing insomnia attacks, it is important to seek medical treatment immediately. The doctor should do a series of testing to identify and treat medical ailments that may be causing insomnia. During the testing if, the doctor finds any reason that may cause insomnia you will be prescribed medications. Make sure you follow the doctor’s directions to the maximum to find relief. The medications may however cause a few side effects. The side effects are often short lived since the body must adjust to the changes.
If you have a medical condition that is, causing sleepless nights you may want to ask your doctor about diet and exercise. Studies have shown that those that exercise regularly and eat right often live longer and healthier lifestyles and rarely do they suffer insomnia. If you are instructed to exercise, make sure you do the exercises during day hours and not before going to bed. Exercises will promote the adrenaline thus increasing the body’s energy level. I recommend exercising early in the morning; since it will help, your body gets a great start on working properly during the day hours.
A healthy diet is great for nourishing the body and mind, thus promoting healthier longer life spans and helping the mind find a source of relaxation. You will need to include vegetables, right amount of carborhydrates, fruits and other proper nutrition into your diet plan for a healthier life.
If you drink, you may want to slow down, and especially avoid drinking alcohol during night hours. Alcohol will caused sleepless nights and even if you are able to go to sleep at night, your will not receive REM sleep. Caffeine should also be avoided at least five hours before bedtime. Nicotine also affects the body negatively, thus avoiding nicotine before bedtime is essential for a restful night.
If during the night you are still finding it, hard to sleep, you may want to listen to soft music, which relaxes the mind. Some people find it easy to fall a sleep while the television is playing. Make sure you keep the sound level low. You may want to read a good book also. Few people read at night, which relaxes the mind or bores the mind and the person is able to fall asleep.
There are various steps to take when a person is having difficulty falling a sleep. Again, if you have ongoing sleep problems then you will need to visit your doctor, since medical problems may exist. Learning to exercise and diet properly again, is essential so that the body and mind will have the proper nutrition and energy level to survive. Fresh air can also help the body and mind relax. If during the night hours, you are having difficulty resting, sit on the porch and allow the fresh air to freshen your body, thus promoting peace and relaxation.
