Effective leadership is a combination of different approaches to leadership which skillfully blends and switch between different leadership styles depending on situations. Leadership styles can be broadly described as visonary, coaching, affiliative, democratic, paceseeting and commanding. Visionary leadership style moves people towards shared goals and is appropriate when organisation changes require a new vision or when a new direction is needed. The coaching leadership style connects what a person wants within the organisation goals and is use to help employees improve performance by building their long term capabilities. Creating harmony in organisation by connecting people to each other is an affiliative leadership style and is use to mend differences in a team, motivate people during difficult times and strengthen teamwork. The democratic leadership style value people's input and gets commitment through participation and is useful in building employees buy-in, getting consensus or getting voluntary inputs from employees. The pacesetting leadership style is about meeting exciting and challenging goals and is useful to get high quality results from a motivated and competent team. In an environemnt filled with crisis, the commanding leadership style helps to reduce anxiety by giving a clear direction in an emergency which enables a quick turnaround.
